Surrey Heath needs better, safer and faster transport, from trains and buses to roads and cycling, and my Conservative colleagues and I are working together to secure the local improvements we need.
Better rail: We need a faster, more accessible and more reliable rail service to help our local economy grow and to reduce congestion on our roads, and I am continuing to fight for faster trains from Camberley, Frimley and Bagshot, and for step-free access at Ash Vale station.
Better roads: I receive regular complaints about the A322 Lightwater bypass, the most significant cause of traffic congestion in Surrey Heath. I know first-hand just how horrendous the traffic can be, and I’m continuing to work with Surrey County Council and National Highways to reduce the congestion at the junction of the M3 and A322. I’m pressing for the funding and action needed to make the necessary short-term and long-term improvements. I also know how important it is that our roads are kept in good condition to ensure safety and comfort for road users, and I’ve argued for extra funding, so I am delighted that there is now an additional £3.7 million to fix potholes in Surrey.
Tackling Anti-social parking: This is a significant problem in particular areas in Surrey Heath. I want to see councils given the powers they need to fine those who practice anti-social parking, blocking pavements, pathways and rights of way.
